On Thursday – days before the crucial match against South Africa today – Kohli walked out of a salon in Melbourne sporting a Ronaldo-like mohawk. And in less than 24 hours, he crossed the 20-million mark to become the second most followed Indian sportsperson on Facebook, behind only the God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. Virat has always said he likes to stay ‘on trend’, but when it comes to his hairstyles, the vice captain clearly stays ahead of them, like in 2013, when he was spotted with a new, ‘angled eyebrow cut’ (left) in Delhi. And he’s also not the only one to go for ‘World Cup special’ hairdos. Here’s a look.

In 2013, the hairstyle-savvy Dhoni had sported a mohawk during the IPL (right).

A year later, he surprised everyone again, when he decided to get his hair straightened for the Asia Cup, even though not everyone loved the absence of his famed curls.

Going blonde Zaheer Khan getting a blonde streak right before the 2011 World Cup proved lucky for him, as the bowler became the top wicket-taker in the tournament.
