Pre-Fall hair trends you can recreate
Pre-Fall hair trends you can recreate
It is pre-Fall season worldwide and the season calls for new hairdos that are less than ordinary. Try out these hair trends seen on the catwalks.
Accessories your look
A look which dominated the Fall catwalks was the use of clips and barrettes. No longer the territory of teenagers, Proenza Schouler and Fendi put headbands on their models for vintage glamor, while other designers went for barettes and extravagant clips. Take your pick from the wide range, but we recommend you choose something in a neutral toned color to look playful but sophisticated.
Tie the knot
Forget about buns for this season, because it’s all about the knot and getting an undone look. You can style this right on top of the head or the nape of the neck, depending on your mood. Just make sure it looks effortless and like you’ve just piled this on your head. If you find this difficult to achieve, then we recommend tying the knot loosely and pulling out a few strands to make sure you’re on trend. Fix with a light hairspray so the style looks flawless all day.
Get a blunt bob
“The blunt bob is fun and sophisticated; with no layers and cut all at one length, you can achieve the volume you have always dreamed of,” says hairstylist Asgar Saboo. It is feminine and mature, drawing attention to the structure of your face and really elongating that neck. See how Beyonce and young stars like Margot Robbie wear theirs for some inspiration. This look is so versatile — the blunt bob can be styled with a side or middle parting, or simply slicked back off the face. Don’t underestimate this look, as you can style it in various ways, whether you want to channel your inner Hollywood goddess or not. Today, we’re seeing bobs that hit just above the shoulders, so the style can be worn long enough to tie in a ponytail. Note that the blunt bob works well for straight and wavy textures, so you can really make this your own.
Bohemian waves
This sultry style gives effortless but lustrous definition for volume and life to any hair colour or texture. “It follows the bohemian trends we’re predicting for autumn,” says hairstylist Debbie from a salon in Bandra. These effortless waves work best on mid to long length hair, creating lots of natural movement. To get your bohemian waves ready for Fall, apply mousse to your wet hair and blow dry until you meet your natural hair texture. For bohemian waves I suggest you follow your natural part. Starting from the bottom, take various sized sections of hair and wrap around a curling wand. The hair near your face will have to be curled outwards away from your face to keep with the boho feel. Spray your locks with a hair mist for texture and volume; add a salt spray if you want something extra tousled.
Tie your pony to the side
The side ponytail is often dismissed, but it actually is a very elegant and formal style that can be worn to any event. Side ponytails work best for long hair for the ponytail to sit over the shoulder. You can wear your ponytail straight, curly, wavy, with braids or twist – there are so many ways to style it. Says Asgar, ‘My favorite is a sleek side ponytail with a quiff or fringe for a lively, voluminous look.” Young stars like Cara Delevingne wear theirs on the top of the head, but keep yours at the nape of the neck if you want to look chic like the Duchess of Cambridge.

How to recreate these Oscars-inspired hairstyles
- Make a deep side part and leave a front section of your hair loose.
- Pull the rest of your hair into a low-slung, messy bun. Jordy says to place the bun on the side that is opposite from your hair part.
- Slowly start to twist the loose section of hair towards the crown of your head.
- Use the leftover hair from your twist and wrap it around the bun. Secure with a few bobby pins.
- Give it a spritz of hairspray and you’re all set!

Cynthia’s inspiration: Gwyneth Paltrow
- Start by blow-drying and then, flat-ironing your hair to get it nice and sleek. You can use a shine serum or shine spray to achieve the glossy look. The key is shine, shine, shine!
- Part your hair to the side.
- Section off two pieces of your hair — on both sides of the head. Keep them loose.
- Next, isolate a loose section of hair at the crown of your head. It should look like the makings of a hair bump.
- Pull the two front sections into a tight ponytail. Keep the ponytail under the loose top section of hair.
- Let the loose top section hang over your ponytail and voila! Stylist Tip: Smooth out any loose ends with a dab of gel to get a really straight look.
