How to get that man bun hairstyle right
Move over bobtails, the man bun is back! Also known as the mun, this hairstyle comprises men literally tying their hair in a bun, as opposed to only sporting ponytails.
With Hollywood celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Orlando Bloom and Chris Hemsworth recently spotted sporting this hairstyle, the male top knot has not only become acceptable but also attractive. Closer home, Farhan Akhtar has also been spotted wearing this hairstyle. Meanwhile, those in the showbiz, especially male models, choreographers, dancers are opting for the man bun since it spells comfort and confidence. “Man bun is quite popular with young men who have long hair and are confident enough to carry it off. I, too, tie my hair in a bun,” says hair expert Shailesh Moolya.
Here are some dos and don’ts to keep in mind before you bun up.
A man bun is best suited for those who have thick, wavy or curly hair. Avoid this hairdo if you have thin, fine hair as tying a bun will pull your hair’s roots and damage your hair.
According to hairstylists, those with a receding hairline should stay away from wearing a man bun as it makes their facial features look broader.
There are different types of man buns — low bun, samurai top-knot and mid-height bun. While a low bun can make your hair look very boring, a mid-height bun works the best, according to experts.
Don’t gel your hair before tying the topknot as a man bun should not look sleek and neat. Instead, for a grungy, rough bun to look cool and edgy.
