३० एप्रिल ही खळेकाकांची म्हणजेच संगीतकार श्रीनिवास खळे यांची जयंती. खळेकाकांच्या चालीव म्हणजे ऐकताना अतिशय गोड वाटणाऱ्या, लक्षात राहतील अशा; पण गायला.. गायलाच काय नुसते गुणगुणायला जरी गेलो तरी घाम फुटेल अशा चाली. मराठी संगीताचे प्रतिनिधित्व करणारे असे हे आपले खळेकाका.
खळेकाकांची आणि माझी पहिली भेट झाली ती वसंतरावांमुळे! हो.. ‘बगळ्यांची माळ फुले अजुनी अंबरात’मुळे. एकतर तोपर्यंत मी वसंतराव देशपांडे यांची फक्त नाटय़गीते, शास्त्रीय मफिली, ठुमरी-दादरा असेच ऐकले होते. त्यांच्याकडून असे एक भावगीत ऐकायला मिळणे हा एक सुखद धक्का होता. ते भावगीतही प्रचलित चालींपासून हटके असे. मग त्यांनी अजून एक बाण काढला भात्यातून. ‘राहिले ओठातल्या ओठात वेडे शब्द माझे..’ बापरे! या गाण्याबद्दल असा प्रश्न पडतो की आधी काय? म्हणजे हे गाणे बनताना सर्वात आधी काय ठरले असावे? गायक? चाल? की शब्द? कारण वसंतरावांच्या आवाजातल्या नसíगक कंपनांचा या गाण्यात असा काही वापर झालेला आहे की असे वाटून जाते की, त्या कंपनांना न्याय देण्यासाठी चाल झाली असावी आणि चालीला न्याय देण्यासाठी गीत आले असावे. असा उलटा प्रवास झालाय की काय, असे वाटून जाते.
एकूणच खळेकाकांची सगळीच गाणी अशी आहेत की ती त्या म्हणजे त्याच गायक/गायिकेने गावे.. जसे लतादीदींचे ‘जाहल्या काही चुका..’ अंगावर काटा श्रेणीतले गाणे! ‘काही’ची किंवा ‘गायिले’ची जागा फक्त दीदीच घेऊ जाणे! चाल बांधतानाच अशी जागा त्यात आणणे एखाद्या संगीतकाराला कसे काय जमू शकते? लता मंगेशकर हे नाव डोक्यात ठेवूनच हे गाणे तयार झाले असणार यात शंका नाही. लतादीदी आणि खळेकाका यांची सगळीच गाणी एकेका गाण्यावर पीएचडी करावी अशी आहेत. काही उदाहरणे म्हणजे – ‘या चिमण्यांनो.’ त्यात विशेष करून कडव्याची चाल.. कडव्याच्या शेवटी परत मूळ ध्रुवपदाच्या चालीकडे येणे.. अफाट!
‘नीज माझ्या नंदलाला’ – आपण मोठे का झालो? लहानच राहिलो असतो तर काय बिघडले असते? काय तो मातृत्वाचा भाव, काय ती आर्तता.. हे गाणे एकदा ऐकून मन भरतच नाही.
